Rapper DMX’s abusive mum often left her son so hungry as a kid, he’d drink her perfume just to get something inside him. The hard-living hip-hop star, real name Earl Simmons, has revealed in a new VH1 Behind The Music documentary that his mum used to lock food away in a closet in her bedroom – so her son couldn’t eat when he wanted to. The Yonkers, New York-born rapper admits he and his half sister would have to wait for his mother, Arnette, to wake up before he could eat.

DMX says, “Hard was not being able to eat until your mother woke up because she had to food in her closet. She had a tray of perfume and I drunk some because it smelled good, but it was disgusting… I was that hungry.

The rapper used the life story to open up about the beatings he got at the hand of his mother after his father left home. He recalls, “You get beat, you’re in the house, you can’t even go anywhere, you just gotta take it… There were times she was outta control, but I’m not dead.”

Kim Kardashian, Usher and Leelee Sobieski Headline FiFi 2010 Fragrance Oscars

Summer storms couldn’t stop the stars from coming out at last night’s 38th Annual FiFi Awards in New York City, which honors the year’s best in the fragrance industry. Presenters included Kim Kardashian, Leelee Sobieski, Tinsley Mortimer and Randy Jackson, while Usher nabbed Male Celebrity Fragrance of the Year and Michael Kors was inducted into the FiFi Hall of Fame — the designer’s second legendary honor in just days, having won the CFDA Lifetime Achievement award from CFDA earlier this week. Usher was grinning ear-to-ear when asked if he would add his FiFi award to a trophy case already chock full of music awards.

If I’m known for being worn on the skin of beautiful women and gentlemen around the world, then that’s a great thing,” Usher told with a flirtatious smile.

Meanwhile, a very blonde Mortimer lit up the otherwise little-black-dress-submerged ballroom in a gauzey and short citrus orange party dress.

But the evening wasn’t without a couple of mishaps. First to present, Kardashian emerged in a dramatic body-hugging strapless mermaid gown — which the star soon found was not intended for a walk up a steep flight of stars to the stage. After a stumble and effort that took helping hands of assistance, Kardashian brushed off her awkward entrance with a graceful joke and smile at the podium.

And presenting the final awards of the evening, Randy Jackson thought that Fragrance of the Year was the last award — and told everyone to enjoy the party with a wave.  Except there was one more award left to present, which Jackson had to come back to the podium for:  Perfume Extraordinaire, won by fragrance house Firmenich.

Highly-prized honors went to Marc Jacobs’ Lola for Women’s Luxe Fragrance of the Year and Tom Ford’s Grey Vetiver for Men’s Luxe Fragrance of the Year.  Halle Berry’s Halle and Antonio Banderas’ Seduction in Black won for Popular Appeal Fragrance of the Year, while Bath & Body Works nabbed Retailer of the Year and Chanel’s No. 5 endured on with Best Women’s Media Campaign.

Jennifer Lopez is presenting her new fragrance Love & Glamour which arrives on the market in autumn 2010. Love & Glamour was created by Honorine Blanc and Harry Fremont of Firmenich in cooperation with Lopez. Composition opens with notes of Italian mandarin, guava and nectarine pulp. A heart incorporates water lily, coconut orchid, orange blossom absolute and jasmine petals, while a base finishes with sandalwood, sensual musk and amber. While the fragrance was being created and developed, Lopez asked the perfumers to accentuate sandalwood at least a bit more and to make the fragrance a bit sexier…

”Creation of flacon, outer carton and advertising campaign was much easier than creating the fragrance composition. “ – said Lopez.

The fragrance is available as 50 and 75ml EDP, along with 200ml body care lotion. Jennifer Lopez created the flacon in cooperation with designer Jon Dinapoli. The designers’ wish was to shape the flacon to fit its name – Love & Glamour! Inspiration for the flacon was a celebrity in a glamorous gown on red carpet.
